
“Citizen Khan”, a BBC sitcom recently aired on Television has angered the Muslim community and have resulted in 200 complaints against the six part comedy serial following its first episode broadcast yesterday.
The show has been deemed to “to take the mickey out of Islam” by being “disrespectful against the Quran”.
A scene from the episode which is considered highly controversial is where a Muslim girl, the daughter of the lead character Mr. Khan, rushes on to wear a hijab and pretends to be reading Quran as soon as her father enters.

This particular scene raged comments over the BBC message board with one stating the act of opening the Quran amidst her entry as “disrespectful”.
“The show was terrible stereotyping about Asians, ignorant and just dreadful,” read one of the comments on the message board.

‘Citizen Khan’ portrays a Muslim Pakistani family living in Birmingham. The sitcom is based upon Mr. Khan’s (Mosque manager) self importance and his stature within the business world.
Though the first episode provoked 200 complaints, it was watched over by 3.6 million viewers. via, aaj.tv
